Child found in smoke-filled bedroom as fire tears through Yishun HDB flat on 12th floor

A fire broke out in the living room of a 12th-floor flat at Block 381C Yishun Ring Road on the evening of July 3, 2026, prompting the evacuation of 25 residents and the hospitalisation of a child. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at approximately 5.15pm and arrived to find the living room actively ablaze, extinguishing the fire using a water jet. During the operation, firefighters discovered a child alone in a bedroom; the child was assessed for smoke inhalation on-site before being conveyed to KK Women's and Children's Hospital. The cause of the Yishun flat fire remains under investigation. The incident comes against a backdrop of rising residential fire numbers in Singapore — home fires climbed 8.6 per cent from 968 cases in 2024 to 1,051 cases in 2025, with unattended cooking and electrical faults remaining the leading causes.
