Teen dies after fire tears through 12th-floor Yishun flat, 50 evacuated

A 17-year-old boy died on Sunday after a fire broke out on the evening of June 10, 2023 in a Housing Board flat on the 12th floor of Block 783 Yishun Ring Road. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted at 8.55pm and upon arrival found the unit ablaze, requiring firefighters to force entry before discovering the teenager unconscious in the smoke-filled bedroom. SCDF paramedics performed CPR on-site before transporting him to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Approximately 50 residents from neighbouring units were evacuated as the blaze — contained to the bedroom's contents — was extinguished using a water jet.
