A 53-year-old Yishun resident reported that a 50-centimetre section of his bathroom ceiling collapsed on Monday, August 17, narrowly missing his elderly mother as she moved through the kitchen. The steel reinforcement bars were left exposed after the fall, and the resident noted his mother uses the bathroom every morning—a few minutes' delay could have meant serious injury. The family had lived in the unit for over a decade without incident.

Renovation work was underway in the unit directly above, prompting the resident to contact authorities immediately. When inspectors arrived, they advised that the upstairs contractor would coordinate cleanup and repairs once the renovation was complete.
