Steel gate crushes and kills construction worker at Yishun Ring Road site

A 55-year-old Chinese national construction worker died after a steel gate frame toppled and fell on him at Block 413 Yishun Ring Road on the evening of October 21, 2024. The worker was pushing the gate when it derailed and collapsed, leaving him critically injured at the scene. He was conscious when SCDF conveyed him to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. The Ministry of Manpower has since ordered Jin Shan Construction — the site occupier and employer — to halt all work activities pending investigation, with Nee Soon Town Council named as the project developer. The fatality marks Singapore's 25th workplace death in 2024, continuing a troubling upward trend from the same period last year.
