Elderly woman struck by car on Yishun Ring Road, witnesses describe pool of blood

A 75-year-old woman was fatally struck by a minibus at the exit of a car park at Block 256 Yishun Ring Road on Jun. 20, 2023, in an incident that would take two years to reach sentencing. Driver Eng Kheng Long, 54, was making a discretionary right turn out of the car park at around 8am when he failed to stop at the exit line and did not notice the elderly victim already standing in the middle of the road. The minibus collided with her, causing her to fall backwards; she was conveyed to Khoo Teck Phuat Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:54pm the same day. Eng was convicted of driving without due care and attention resulting in death and sentenced to five months' imprisonment and an eight-year disqualification from all driving licence classes, with prosecutors noting his culpability was low and citing no additional aggravating factors beyond his failure to stop at the exit line.
