Woman dies at Yishun Block 874 flat; MOM corrects 'domestic worker' rumour
A 47-year-old Singaporean woman died after being found hanging naked from a clothes rack on the 11th floor of Block 874 Yishun Street 81 on the morning of October 12, 2023. Police received a call for assistance at 7:20am, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force conveyed the woman, who was unconscious, to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where she subsequently passed away.
The Ministry of Manpower stepped in to address circulating rumours that the deceased was a migrant domestic worker, stating unequivocally: "This is untrue. The deceased is not a migrant domestic worker." Initial reports from Gutzy.Asia had suggested a Filipino domestic worker connection, prompting the ministry's clarification and a public appeal to stop speculation.
Venerable Shi Fa Rong from the Sagaramudra Buddhist Society visited the scene on October 14 to offer prayers, and told Chinese-language media that the woman was a Singaporean resident of the 11th floor. Police have ruled out foul play, and the death is being investigated as a suspected suicide. Investigations remain ongoing.
