PMD rider knocks down 12-year-old at Yishun basketball court, charged 18 months later
A 19-year-old was arrested and charged for knocking down a 12-year-old boy with an e-scooter near Block 838, Yishun Street 81, in an incident that took place on March 29, 2018, at approximately 11am. The collision occurred at a basketball court, leaving the victim with bruising and abrasion on his right cheek and bleeding around his upper right primary molar tooth, requiring immediate medical attention. Investigations by the Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified the rider over a year and a half after the incident, with charges of rash act causing hurt filed on November 27, 2019. The case predates the November 5, 2019 ban on e-scooters on public footpaths, a regulation that followed a wave of PMD-related injuries across Singapore. If convicted, the rider faces up to one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.
