Kurt Tay jailed for sharing a woman's intimate video without consent
In a case that concluded in April 2026, online personality Kurt Tay, 43 (real name Tay Foo Wei), was sentenced to 14 months' jail and a $3,000 fine for distributing an intimate video and photo of a woman without her consent and for making threatening communication. The case arose from a relationship that began in June 2023 and soured badly: by his own account Tay was first humiliated when a video of him was leaked and circulated to his wife, an industry WhatsApp group and his employer. He then escalated criminally. On 18 October 2023 he posted threatening messages in a Telegram group of about 247 members โ including asking how much it would cost to hire someone to kill the woman and saying he wanted her to die โ prompting her to make a police report. On 27 October 2023 he repeatedly distributed her intimate video and photo in the same group, calling it "an eye for an eye". The woman reported feeling alarmed, distressed and humiliated and considered seeking psychiatric help. He pleaded guilty, with nine other charges taken into consideration. The court acknowledged the mutual recriminations but District Judge Lee Lit Cheng found that Tay had acted out of malice, stating that those who resort to criminal acts to address a perceived injustice will be firmly dealt with. In this case Kurt Tay was the offender.
