Wild chickens of Yishun Boardwalk evade four-man net squad, spark national debate

On 15 July, four men—two in white, two in orange—were filmed chasing and netting a wild chicken near Yishun Boardwalk HDB estate following resident complaints to Nee Soon Town Council. The operation was prompted by feedback about early morning crowing disrupting neighbourhood peace; the Town Council estimated over 40 wild chickens in the area, with roosters frequently fighting. Netizens reacted with concern for the chicken's welfare, questioning why the birds were not left alone, though one resident defended the action, citing the noise disturbance.

Nee Soon Town Council confirmed it receives periodic complaints about wild chickens and conducts management operations to address resident concerns in a "responsible and balanced manner." The Ministry of National Development reported receiving an average of 2,000 instances of wild chicken feedback annually across residential estates.
