A Chinese national who murdered three women in a Yishun Avenue 11 HDB flat in 2008 has had his appeal against the death penalty dismissed by the Court of Appeal. Wang Zhijian, 48, stabbed his lover Zhang Meng 48 times and her teenage daughter Feng Jianyu 45 times while they slept, before pursuing flatmate Yang Jie โ€” who fell six storeys to her death after Wang severed her fingers with a chopper as she clung to a kitchen window ledge. Originally convicted of culpable homicide for two of the deaths, the prosecution's cross-appeal was allowed, elevating all three convictions to murder. The Court of Appeal's November 2014 ruling confirmed Wang would hang, closing a case that had shocked Singapore with its sustained brutality and the calculated nature of the attacks across multiple rooms of the same flat.
