Autistic boy, 12, molested three times at Yishun Swimming Complex by man who targeted him

A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months and two weeks' imprisonment for repeatedly molesting a 12-year-old autistic boy at Yishun Swimming Complex in February 2025. Ang Zhi Wei followed the non-verbal child toward vending machines near the male toilet, checking his surroundings before groping the boy's buttocks three separate times over his shorts within minutes — acts captured in full by CCTV cameras at the facility. A lifeguard on duty witnessed the offences, reviewed the footage, detained Ang, and called police at 5:03pm. The victim, substantially unable to protect himself or articulate what had happened, later communicated his fear and confusion to a counsellor through drawings. Ang admitted he deliberately targeted the boy because he believed him to have a 'low IQ' and to be a 'special needs' child — a factor prosecutors cited as deliberate exploitation of the victim's mental infirmity.
