Yishun among 13 locations raided as police net 17 in $720,000 gambling bust

Singapore Police Force conducted simultaneous raids across 13 locations island-wide on 6 July targeting unlawful remote gambling operations, with Yishun among the targeted areas. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Police Intelligence Department and Special Operations Command arrested 14 men and three women aged between 45 and 76.

Authorities seized over S$720,000 in cash along with mobile phones, computers and gambling-related paraphernalia. Five suspects—four men aged 47 to 76 and a 47-year-old woman—were expected to be charged in court on 8 July under the Gambling Control Act 2022, while investigations against the remaining 12 suspects continued.

Other raided locations included Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Potong Pasir, Changi, Pasir Ris, Bedok, Joo Chiat, Tampines, Kaki Bukit, West Coast, Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang. Operators of unlawful betting operations face fines up to S$500,000 and up to seven years' imprisonment, while agents face fines up to S$200,000 and similar jail terms. Police noted the timing coincided with the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which typically sees increased gambling activity.
