Python vanishes into Yishun drain after construction workers spot it coiled under plywood

A reticulated python gave wildlife rescuers the slip after being discovered coiled beneath plywood sheets at a worksite near Block 101B Yishun Avenue 5 on July 30, 2026. Stomper Sarah reported the sighting at approximately 3.57pm, prompting a call to the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres). The snake, however, had other plans.

By 5.25pm, before rescuers could contain it, the python had slithered into a nearby drain and disappeared from view. Acres chief executive Kalaivanan Balakrishnan confirmed the wildlife rescue team's attendance but acknowledged the futility of the effort: "The Acres Wildlife Rescue team attended to this case, but the python was spotted moving into a drain and could not be seen thereafter."

Balakrishnan noted that reticulated pythons are ecologically valuable, efficiently controlling Singapore's rodent populations. The public was advised not to approach snakes, keep pets on tight leashes, and allow snakes their space, particularly in natural habitats.
