On the morning of 24 September 2025, Nguyen Phuong Tra, a 30-year-old Vietnamese national, was fatally stabbed in the chest in the common corridor outside a sixth-floor unit at Block 323 Yishun Central. Her husband, 33, was seriously injured trying to stop the attack; both were taken to hospital, where Nguyen died. The accused, Koh Ah Hwee, 66, lived in the same block; neighbours said the two households had been at odds over noise for years. Koh was charged with murder on 25 September 2025 — an offence that carries the death penalty — and was charged from hospital via a field magistrate. The case drew national attention because of a missed chance to defuse it: Nguyen had applied to the Community Mediation Centre for mediation on 12 June 2025, but it never proceeded because Koh did not respond to the invitation. Roughly three months later she was dead. The killing intensified scrutiny of how Singapore handles serious noise disputes in high-density public housing. Koh was escorted back to the scene for a police re-enactment on 6 October 2025 and remanded for medical examination shortly after. The case remains before the courts; no verdict has been recorded.
