Loanshark trio arrested in Yishun & Woodlands for threats, glue attacks

Three men aged 32 to 69 were arrested across separate loanshark harassment incidents in Yishun and Woodlands between August and September 2024. The first suspect, a 39-year-old, was arrested on 18 September for pouring a liquid substance believed to be glue into the keyhole of a residential unit's main gate along Woodlands Drive 62 on 22 August. Police identified him through CCTV footage after being alerted to the incident.

A 32-year-old man was arrested the same day for distributing threatening loanshark notes, including one pasted on a gate at Woodlands Street 32 on 10 September. Authorities linked him to multiple loanshark harassment activities across Singapore. The third suspect, an elderly man, was caught red-handed on 18 September while attempting to hand a threatening note to a resident at a unit in Yishun Ave 6. One of the seized notes threatened the debtor with a "gas boom" if payment was not made.

All three were charged under the Moneylenders Act 2008 on 19 September. First-time offenders face fines between S$5,000 and S$50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
