Yishun finally gets air-conditioned bus interchange after 28 years
Yishun Integrated Transport Hub opened on September 8, 2019, marking a major infrastructure upgrade for the neighbourhood after nearly three decades without a modern interchange facility. The hub, Singapore's 10th integrated transport hub, seamlessly connects an air-conditioned bus interchange with Yishun MRT station and Northpoint City shopping mall, offering commuters improved connectivity and accessibility.
The facility prioritises barrier-free access for elderly residents, people with mobility challenges, and families with young children. Features include dedicated boarding points at each berth, graduated kerb edges for wheelchair users, priority queue zones with seating, nursing rooms, and barrier-free toilets. The hub introduces "Heart Zones"—designated areas where vulnerable commuters such as the elderly and visually impaired can seek assistance—and a quiet, calming space for those with special needs.
Additional amenities include 600 bicycle parking lots, staff facilities, and a reverse warning system to enhance safety during bus movements. The opening required adjustment of bus routes previously operating from the temporary Yishun Bus Interchange.
