Mohamed Aliff kills 9-month-old baby in van near Yishun

In November 2019, Mohamed Aliff Mohamed Rosli fatally injured Izz Fayyaz Zayani Ahmad, a nine-month-old infant, while left alone with the child in a van near Yishun. Aliff, the boyfriend of the baby's mother, inflicted severe head injuries on the child, who died from his wounds. Aliff was charged with murder. At trial, the prosecution did not press for the death penalty, citing Aliff's intellectual disability. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane on 1 August 2022. The case drew widespread public outrage and renewed discussion on protections for infants in vulnerable caregiving arrangements.
