Woman, 23, dies in Yishun crash after Private Hire Vehicle hits bus near Northpoint

Queenie Leong Wei Ni, 23, died in hospital after the private-hire vehicle she was travelling in crashed into the rear of a Tower Transit bus at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Central 1 at approximately 5:35am on Saturday, 2 August 2025. She was a passenger en route to her mother's house in Yishun with a friend, 20-year-old Wong Meiyi, before they were to travel to Malaysia together. The 47-year-old male driver was also conveyed to hospital.

Wong, who suffered a fractured hand in the collision, recounted to Shin Min Daily News that the driver had been swerving erratically and his hands were shaking as they approached Northpoint City. Leong had fallen asleep on the right side of the vehicle. When the car struck the bus, Wong's hand hit the seat while Leong struck the front seat and collapsed onto her friend, bleeding from her head, nose, and mouth. Wong attempted CPR using only one hand due to her injury, but was unable to revive her friend. The bus captain called for emergency services; SCDF arrived at 5:40am and conveyed all three to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Doctors confirmed Leong's heart had stopped at the scene and that oxygen and blood supply to her brain were cut off despite defibrillation attempts in the ambulance.

Wong, who described Leong as a sister figure, was left with severe guilt and trauma. She required sedatives to calm down after learning of her friend's death and is now afraid to ride in cars. Leong, who had studied part-time while working, had aspired to become an accountant and was remembered as a natural leader and helpful person. Her wake was held at Block 162 Yishun Street 11, with cremation at Mandai Crematorium on 5 August. Police investigations were ongoing at the time of reporting.
