Blk 737 Yishun man beats wife with walking stick, then jumps from 12th floor
A 63-year-old man with a documented history of family violence died after jumping from the 12th floor of Block 737 Yishun Street 72 on 16 November 2016, in what the State Coroner ruled a suicide. Ong Chai Seng had beaten his wife Koh Eng with a walking stick in the early hours of that morning — the very day the couple were due in court for a Personal Protection Order hearing she had filed against him. Koh, bloodied from blows to her head, fled to their daughter's flat on the 7th floor of the same block, who then called police; officers arrived to find blood on Koh's mouth, ears, and pooled across the living room floor. State Coroner Marvin Bay noted Ong had "an aggressive and violent disposition," a finding supported by decades of family testimony including prior convictions for criminal intimidation and causing hurt in 1994, extramarital affairs, and a history of erratic behaviour in the weeks before his death including paranoid suspicions that family members were poisoning his drinking water.
