E-bike charging in Yishun flat erupts in flames, sends resident to burns unit
A power-assisted bicycle charging inside a one-bedroom flat at Block 424A Yishun Ave 11 caught fire on the morning of 14 November 2020, sending one occupant to Singapore General Hospital's specialised burn centre with burn injuries. The Singapore Civil Defence Force responded at approximately 9.45am to the fourth-floor unit, where firefighters physically carried two trapped occupants to safety โ one from the bedroom, one from the toilet. Forty residents had already self-evacuated the block before SCDF arrived, suggesting the fire was visible or detectable well before crews reached the scene. The second rescued occupant was assessed for smoke inhalation on-site but declined hospital transport. SCDF confirmed the fire was of electrical origin, adding another entry to Singapore's growing catalogue of e-bike charging incidents gone wrong.
