Fire at Yishun coffee shop — Moon Thai Kitchen offers free buffet as apology

A fire broke out at Block 732 Yishun Avenue 5 on the evening of Aug. 6, engulfing the ground-floor coffee shop in white smoke. The Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived at approximately 6:55pm to find the blaze had already been suppressed by the building's automatic sprinkler system before firefighters could intervene. One person was assessed for minor injuries but declined hospital treatment.

Moon Thai Kitchen Express, the Thai food stall operating inside the coffee shop, responded swiftly with a gesture of goodwill. The stall announced via Instagram that all buffet customers who dined in from 6pm onwards on Aug. 6 are entitled to a complimentary buffet on their next visit. Affected diners can redeem the offer by sending the stall a direct message and presenting their original receipt.

The stall framed the incident as an "unexpected operational issue" and issued a formal apology for any inconvenience caused. Investigations into the fire's cause remain ongoing.
