Cat found dead at Block 714 Yishun Street 71

A dead cat was discovered at the foot of a staircase at Block 714 Yishun Street 71 on February 2, 2020, at approximately 4pm, prompting the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) to launch an investigation. Yishun Cat Patrol shared photos of the deceased animal on Facebook, with some online commenters speculating the death resulted from animal abuse.

AVS group director Ms Jessica Kwok stated the agency takes all public feedback on animal cruelty seriously and is examining the case, noting that photographic and video evidence from the public assists investigations. She cautioned against speculation, emphasizing that not all animal deaths are linked to cruelty—stray cats face multiple fatal risks including starvation, disease, parasitic infestation, accidental falls from height, and vehicle strikes.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) confirmed the case was not reported to them but expressed deep concern, stating that animal cruelty has no place in society and cases require thorough investigation. The public was directed to contact AVS via their online feedback form or hotline at 1800-476-1600, with information kept confidential.
