Yishun man converts $100k car into cat mansion at Block 347 car park

A 50-year-old engineer in Yishun has transformed his largely unused dark grey car into a makeshift shelter for two community cats at the multi-storey car park of Block 347 Yishun Avenue 11. The vehicle, parked on the second floor, now features cardboard cat beds, a makeshift cat house in the boot, and feeding bowls positioned beneath and beside it—all for a calico cat named Patches and an orange tabby named Tiger, both rescued as injured strays over a decade ago.

He purchased the car approximately 10 years ago for around S$100,000 but has driven it infrequently in recent months due to family circumstances. The cats, originally kept at home, began spending time downstairs as Tiger resisted indoor confinement. When He found himself rarely home, he began opening the car as a shelter, occasionally allowing the cats to rest on the seats. Neighbours have been largely welcoming, with residents like Zura Yunos and John Lim reporting they regularly see the cats at the spot, sometimes observing He and his partner tending to them late into the night or early morning.

Nee Soon Town Council acknowledged the setup but removed the items citing safety and hygiene concerns, reminding residents that car parks are designated for vehicular use. The council stated it works with community partners to manage community cats responsibly and encouraged residents to care for strays in ways that do not pose safety or hygiene risks.
