Bus driver jailed after killing 18-year-old cyclist at Yishun Ring Road crossing
A tour bus driver was sentenced to 10 months' jail after fatally striking 18-year-old Malaysian cyclist Jeffson Tang at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Ring Road on July 12, 2023. Yuan Changqing, 38, a Chinese national employed by charter firm Leisure Frontier, failed to slow down while making a discretionary left turn, colliding with Mr Tang as he crossed a pedestrian crossing with six seconds still showing on the flashing green man signal. The impact flung Mr Tang from his bicycle and under the rear of the bus; he was pronounced dead at the scene, with an autopsy confirming death from head and chest injuries. Yuan, who had prior convictions for two counts of careless driving and one count of speeding between 2019 and 2021, sobbed in court as dashcam footage of the collision was played. He was also disqualified from all driving licences for eight years.
