Bus captain closes eyes for 3 seconds on Yishun St 31, breaks two passengers' arms
A bus captain fell asleep at the wheel on Yishun Street 31 and crashed his SBS Transit bus into a cement bollard in front of a bus stop on June 8, 2021, injuring three of the ten passengers on board. Shifuddin Bin Hussin, 42, had slept only four hours the night before his afternoon shift, with dashcam footage capturing him closing his eyes for three seconds before impact. An 85-year-old man sustained a broken left arm and strained back after falling to the floor, a 53-year-old woman suffered a facial fracture, and a 34-year-old man left with a broken arm and cut lip. Shifuddin was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail on August 22, 2022 and suspended from driving all vehicle classes for five years. SBS Transit confirmed he had since resigned, and maintained that its shift roster system guarantees bus captains at least nine hours of rest between shifts.
