Water bottle standoff at Chong Pang coffee shop escalates to police report
A family of three and the drinks stall owner at Chong Pang Nasi Lemak coffee shop on Sembawang Road descended into a three-minute argument over whether a water bottle could sit on their table rather than a chair. The stall owner cited house rules and pointed to a banner, but the family—identified as Brandon, his father, and mother—insisted the chair was for sitting. The argument escalated when Brandon's father called the stall owner a derogatory term, prompting the stall owner to ask: "Why do you have to do this? I already told you nicely."
Brandon later claimed via Instagram that the viral video omitted the full incident: the stall owner had allegedly thrown their water bottle out of the coffee shop twice, and challenged his father to a fight at the back alley (which his father refused). Brandon said he filed a police report and possesses a recording but cannot share it while the matter is under investigation. He also apologised to the LGBTQ+ community for his father's remarks.
The three-minute clip, posted to Facebook by @Bella lux on Aug 30, went viral across social media—579,000 views on Facebook, 122,000 on Instagram's @sgfollowsall—splitting netizens over whether the family or the stall owner was at fault. Police confirmed a report was lodged.
