Crow shooting season opens in Yishun as culling resumes across 9 districts

The National Parks Board (NParks) has resumed crow shooting operations in Yishun on March 24, 2026, marking the first culling in six years after a hiatus since 2020. Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat announced the resumption citing a dramatic surge in crow-related complaints and attacks: the Municipal Services Office received approximately 15,000 crow-related feedback reports in 2025—three times the 2020 figure—while reported crow attacks increased fourfold to over 2,000 cases.

Operations will expand across nine districts over the coming weeks: Bishan, Jurong, Kranji, Punggol, Sembawang, Tampines, Toa Payoh, Woodlands, and Yishun. The shooting will complement existing multi-pronged management efforts including trapping, nest removal, and food source reduction. NParks removed close to 9,000 crow nests islandwide in 2025 and trapped over 13,000 crows, up from 1,800 in 2021.

Strict safety protocols have been implemented, including cordons, clear signage at shooting zones, and auxiliary police officers deployed on-site to ensure public safety. The previous shooting programme was discontinued after pellets struck nearby homes. House crows are classified as an invasive species posing a threat to local biodiversity and are particularly aggressive when protecting their young.
