Car fire at Orchid Park Condo basement carpark sends one to hospital in Yishun

A car caught fire in the basement carpark of Orchid Park Condominium on Yishun Street 81 at approximately 8.20pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, sending thick black smoke billowing from the building and prompting a full evacuation of one residential tower. Residents reported hearing what sounded like an explosion before the smoke became visible, with one Xiaohongshu user noting she smelled burning from her unit around 8pm before stepping onto her balcony to witness the blaze. Singapore Civil Defence Force firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire using two water jets, and one person was taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation. SCDF confirmed the vehicle involved was not an electric vehicle, putting to rest early speculation from residents online. Nee Soon GRC MP Lee Hui Ying posted on Facebook at 11.15pm acknowledging the evacuation and thanking residents — including a police full-time national serviceman — who stepped forward to assist. Grassroots volunteers and People's Association members also mobilised to offer support to displaced residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
