Bus ploughs into Yishun MRT taxi stand, collapsing shelter onto pedestrians

A Tower Transit service 969 bus crashed into the taxi bay shelter near Yishun MRT station on Yishun Avenue 2 at approximately 1pm on Saturday, 6 November 2021, causing the covered walkway to partially collapse. Three people—the 63-year-old male bus driver and two female pedestrians aged 60 and 64—were taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Eyewitness Raju Thenashkumar described hearing a sound "like breaking biscuits" as the "two-storey high shelter" came down, with one side of the roof remaining lodged against the bus.

Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, MP for Nee Soon GRC, visited the scene and noted preliminary findings suggested the bus had struck one of the beams supporting the linkway. Tower Transit suspended the bus captain pending investigation. The Land Transport Authority confirmed that low-rise taxi stands near bus stops are marked with yellow paint and black stripes on support columns, with height-limit signs at entry points—measures designed to alert drivers, particularly of double-deck buses, to the low-roof structure. Bus captains receive route training and regular safety reminders about such stands. LTA was in the process of reinstating the damaged taxi stand at the time of reporting.
